Initial Opening Date: 2nd November 1937

History

1937: On the 2nd November the Odeon Leicester Square opened with James Bell at the Compton.

c1955: S. J. Wright (Wurlitzer’s UK branch) cleaned and overhauled the organ and made some alterations. These included the addition of the Chimes and metal Harp (from the Regal, Marble Arch Christie) and swapping the Compton Tibia with a Wurlitzer one (from the Gaumont, Watford Wurlitzer)

c1967: The Krumet rank was swapped for an earlier Compton one and a Marimba was also installed (both from the New Victoria Cinema, London Compton) The Wurlitzer Tibia was replaced by Wooden Compton one (from the Gaumont, Finchley Compton)

1980: Ron Curtis added a 2nd Compton Tibia and Vox Humana in the accompaniment chamber.

1992: David Pawlyn started to look after the Compton and returned it its original specification.

2018: The Theatre closed for refurbishment and transformation the an Odeon Luxe. The Compton is now used regularly before films.
