Initial Opening Date: 13th February 1937

History

1937: The Earl of Derby opened The Guildhall Southampton on 13th February. There was an organ recital at twelve noon performed by Dr George Thalben-Ball.

c1965: Some re-leathering took place.

c1980’s: Richard Smithers, better known as organist Tony Fenton was the house organist, but also was involved with ongoing maintenance.

2008: Taylor-Hammond Associates were bought in to bring the Compton into playing condition.

Note: The exact size of the organ is up for debate. The total number of ranks is 50 with 34 being accessible from the Variety Console.
